A Gnostic Catechism

A Gnostic Catechism

Revised Edition
By Stephan A. Hoeller
A compendium of instruction of the Gnostic framework, tenets and mythos, arranged in question and answer form.
When we attach the word “Gnostic” to “Catechism” we may encounter a problem. A Gnostic is by definition a knower, and since knowledge supersedes belief, a knower cannot very well be a believer. If a catechism is mainly a statement of beliefs, it is something that no Gnostic would have a need for. So far so good, but the issue under consideration is a bit more complex than that. (From the Author’s Preface.)

Prayer to St. Michael, Holy Archangel

St Michael

Saint Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle; be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the evil one. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, thrust into the infernal regions, the Adversary and all the other evil spirits, who prowl throughout the world, seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Ongoing at Ecclesia Gnostica

Bishop Hoeller and Ecclesia Gnostica clergy continue sacramental activity, just as a deep stream advances without question or pause, beneath worldly turmoil and confusion.

The suspension of regular public events also allows time to perform needed repairs and maintenance to the Ecclesia and Chapel at Besant Lodge. In Late Antiquity, both pagan and early Christian Rome, a deep religious and social significance was expressed in the Latin term renovatio. It denotes not mere renovation or sprucing-up, but rather a pious and spiritual doing, an actualizing of the Spirit in this world.

Wherever one may be in this world — in Southern California, Portland, Seattle, Austin or elsewhere — all new, old and future friends in the Gnosis are invited and encouraged to stay in touch, to subscribe to this monthly online Newsletter, and to make an online contribution to Ecclesia Gnostica.

There is a power that makes all things new:
It lives and moves in those who know the Self as one.
